Trip Protection with Liveaboard Coverage
Liveaboard trips involve unique risks that standard travel insurance does not address. We recommend choosing a DiveAssure travel plan that includes protections designed specifically for diving safaris:
Both options are available as single trip or annual coverage plans.
Mandatory on all liveaboard trips, this coverage applies only in case of a diving accident.
It protects you whether you are diving locally or abroad, ensuring the essential medical and evacuation support that divers rely on, is in place.
In addition to diving accident coverage, these plans include trip protection with optional add-on benefits designed specifically for liveaboard vacations. Coverage applies to both diving and non-diving travel abroad.
Is diving insurance mandatory for liveaboard trips?
Yes. Diving accident insurance is mandatory on all liveaboard trips. Because liveaboard diving takes place far from shore and medical infrastructure, having specialized diving accident coverage is essential to ensure access to emergency evacuation and recompression treatment if needed. You may choose your provider, we vouch for DiveAssure.
Why should I get coverage designed for liveaboards?
Liveaboard trips are unique. They operate in remote locations, involve complex travel logistics, and represent a significant investment. Standard travel insurance does not address all the specific risks associated with dive safaris. DiveAssure is the only provider in the market that offers liveaboard-tailored benefits.
What makes dive-travel plans different from regular travel insurance?
Most standard travel insurance policies are not designed with diving in mind. Specialized dive-travel insurance includes trip related coverage, as well as benefits tailored to divers, such as recompression treatment, dive-related medical care, evacuation from remote dive sites, and coverage for diving-specific disruptions.
Do I need both dive accident insurance and dive travel insurance?
It depends on the type of coverage you choose. DiveAssure Dive accident insurance protects you in the event of a diving accident and can cover you whether you are diving locally or abroad. It is available as a single-trip plan or an annual plan.
DiveAssure Dive & travel plans include both diving accident coverage and travel protection, but it applies only to trips abroad.
For a specific dive trip abroad, a dive & travel plan already includes the diving accident coverage you need. However, many divers also choose an annual dive accident plan so they remain protected when diving locally throughout the year.
What happens if I miss the liveaboard departure?
If your plan includes travel protection, you may be covered for additional transportation costs required to join the vessel at the next possible port, depending on the circumstances of the delay. DiveAssure liveaboard coverage includes such benefits.
Does DiveAssure policy cover recompression chamber treatment?
Yes. Dive accident and dive-travel insurance includes coverage for recompression chamber treatment and related medical care if you experience a diving injury that requires hyperbaric treatment.
What happens if I get injured while diving during the trip?
Dive accident insurance provides coverage for medical treatment related to diving injuries, including emergency evacuation, hospital treatment, and recompression therapy when required. In case of an accident you should contact local emergency services and then the DiveAssure emergency hotline.
What if I cannot dive during the safari due to illness or weather?
Some of DiveAssure’s dive-travel plans include protection for lost diving days due to medical conditions, or adverse weather that prevents diving. This unique benefit helps compensate for unused portions of your dive package.
Does the insurance cover emergency evacuation from remote locations?
Yes. Dive accident insurance includes emergency evacuation benefits, which are particularly important for liveaboard diving in remote destinations where specialized medical facilities may be far away.
Can I purchase coverage after booking my trip?
Yes. You can usually purchase coverage up until the day before your trip begins. However, it is recommended to purchase coverage as soon as you book your trip to ensure the widest range of benefits, including trip cancellation protection (which may not be valid otherwise).
Are the plans available short-term or only as annual coverage?
Both options are available. You can choose coverage for a specific trip or an annual plan if you travel and dive frequently throughout the year, covering an unlimited number of trips.
Please note that dive-travel plans only cover trips abroad. If you also dive locally, you will need a diving accident plan to be covered.
Does the policy cover dive equipment?
Some dive-travel plans include coverage for lost, damaged, or delayed dive equipment during your trip. Diving accident plans may also include limited gear coverage if the equipment is damaged as part of a covered diving accident. Please refer to the full policy for details and coverage limits.
Will DiveAssure pay the medical provider directly?
Whenever possible, DiveAssure arranges direct payment to medical providers, helping divers avoid large upfront expenses and the stress that can come with them.
During my trip, I will be visiting a few countries, which country should I state as the destination?
Please state the main destination, coverage Will apply to all.
When you travel this far, small disruptions can have big consequences.
